Greetings from Alabama! I've been kicking around my ideas for acting/improv classes, and I thought I'd share with everyone. Here goes... I'm hoping to use a series of exercises where students will bring in an embarrasing story from their lives and share it, then they will script that story and present that, and finally they will perform a story from someone else's point of view ( a monologue.) As the process evolves, students will observe their own behavior patterns as they tell a story (eyebrow use, talking with hands, tensions, vocal patterns etc.) and choose specific vocal and physical choices to implement in the monologue. I will also work with them on how to understand and execute a monologue. I'm also going to do some work with character. Students will pick a postcard and develop the story of the person in the card. Then, we will create relationships and scenes from that. If this form works well, I may also use historical characters or characters from literature. Kyra and I talked about trying to teach acting terms to the students and then putting those terms "on their feet." I'll use improv exercises to teach the concepts of pursuing an intention/motivation, and using strategies and overcoming obstacles in acting. I figure I'll throw in an "active verb" exercise into this as well. I'll also probably have some sort of Meisner class working with the repetition exercise and some of his other basic exercises. Of course, I must have some good old fashioned improv games as well!!! Those are some ideas as of now. It's a work in progress, but I hope that gives you an idea of where I'm going with things. Happy Spring! Amy
